Obituary of Robert Louis Zeunik
Robert L. Zeunik, 84 of Westfield, IN passed away peacefully with his wife Cindy (Flaugher) at his side. Early that morning the clouds parted and God’s heavenly greens keepers ushered him up to heaven. Robert (Bob) and Cindy first met on a blind date and married just a few years later starting their 59 year marital adventure. Their loving relationship produced four children; daughters Melinda Brock (Paul), Sarah Kuntz, Jennifer Nicholls (Bill) and Jeff (Jennifer). Holidays and birthdays became larger (and boisterous) celebrations due to the addition of 9 grandchildren. Bob and Cindy relished their patriarchal roles as grandparents by organizing sleep overs, cook-outs, sporting events and trips to Kings Island. Beloved grandchildren: Collin Dykstra, Hagan Dykstra, Justin Kuntz, Elizbeth Bielski, Tanner Nicholls, Dylan Nicholls, Quin Zeunik, Cooper Zeunik and Emi Zeunik Bob and Cindy have been active members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish for 50+ years. During this time Bob was extremely active in the Parish Council President in the 80’s, an avid participant at the OLMC Merciful Help Center and on CRHP Team #1. Always being a go-getter and planner (with his trusty yellow note pad), Bob served as co-founder and Commissioner of GOLES Catholic golf league, was a former Junior Achievement adviser for Big Brother’s, and served as a past Co-President of the West Point Parents Club of Indiana. Bob was blessed with a strong analytical and mathematical mind which helped him acquire several academic degrees: B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University and an MBA from IU/ Kelley School of Business. He immediately placed with Linde (Division of Union Carbide): starting as a rookie engineer and moving up to the rank of National Product Manager. After retirement he was sought out as a consultant in the field of cryogenics. Not one to let his mind rest (unless golf was on TV) he also started several small businesses. Bob was the third child of Bill & Agnes Zeunik. He was born in Indianapolis, and the family resided in Speedway. He attended St. Christopher’s Catholic grade school and later graduated from Cathedral High School (1957). His family is of Slovenian descent and had an ancestorial grocery store which is part of the Haughville historic district (Per the National Register of Historic Places). Bob is survived by his three siblings: Bill ( Diane), Mary Agnes, and Tom ( Gerry), along with a plethora of nieces and nephews. Bob was a 15 year survivor of Parkinson’s Disease. He avidly pursued new PD research, therapies and stayed in touch with various academic research programs. Bob took his prognosis in stride and was one of the early participants in Indiana’s Rock Steady Boxing program; even being unanimously elected to their Board of Directors. While PD may have slowed him down it did not deter him from attending graduations, football games, family weddings and enjoyed wearing a scary mask at Halloween. Bob was a strong fighter and keystone of the Zeunik family. His presence will be missed. We are comforted knowing he is joining past family members, friends and golf buddies in God’s kingdom, and hope he gets to play a couple of rounds with some of golf’s greats. Visitations will be held Tuesday, April 2nd between 9:30am -11am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (14598 Oak Ridge Rd., Carmel, IN) A funeral Mass at OLMC will begin at 11am. Graveside services will be immediately following at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, IN In lieu of flowers pleas consider a donation to Rock Steady Boxing (Parkinson’s therapy) of Indiana: https://www.rocksteadyboxing.org/donate/
