Obituary of Rosemary Helen Kohler Gill
Rosemary Helen Kohler Gill Our beloved Rosemary “Rosie” Helen Kohler Gill, 96, of Carmel, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 surrounded by her family, cherished memories, and the lessons she taught us. Rosie was born on November 28, 1924 in Dayton, OH to Charles and Helen (Palmert) Kohler and met her husband, John (Jack) Clayton Gill, while both were working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. They were married on September 30, 1950 and were blessed with four children and a marriage of 67 years until his passing. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church throughout her life, enrolled her children at Saint Pius X and attended mass regularly. Rosie was an avid reader and lover of crossword puzzles. She fondly recalled her days of playing bridge and attending aqua aerobics classes with her constantly evolving community of friends. She especially enjoyed the warmth of the sun and loved going to Tops’l Beach and Racquet Club in Destin, FL with Jack during their “snowbird” years. She will be remembered for the way she gathered & hosted her family, friends, and even strangers around tables full of delicious food, warmth, laughter and togetherness. Most importantly, Rosie’s legacy will be her grace, resilience, and acceptance of others. Despite life’s hardships, she hardly ever complained. She put special importance on providing a safe space for her children and grandchildren to feel seen and heard, and ultimately grow into the people they were meant to be. Never once passing judgment, and always seeking to understand each of them as the unique individuals she’d hoped they’d become. Even in her last days, she was engaged and curious about her children and grandchildren’s activities, hopes, and dreams. We are immeasurably blessed to have learned many lessons from our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend in her 96 years, and we will carry her and those lessons with us always. And when we think of her we will dance as we know she is dancing right now. Rosie is survived by her four children, Tom Gill (Cheryl) of Rockford, IL, Dr. Jim Gill (Vicki) of Gastonia, NC, Bob Gill (Kathleen) of Carmel, IN, and Carole (Gill) Yates (Patrick) of Louisville, KY, her nine loving grandchildren, Katie (Paul), Spencer (Joelle), Jordan (Phil), Jennifer (Wes), Lauren (Gavin), Ben (Amy), Patrick (Sarah), Taylor (Jake), and Lexi, and her first great-grandchild, Hunter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, parents, Charles and Helen Kohler, and siblings, Chuck Kohler and Marilyn (Kohler) Bell. A Celebration of Life will take place at 3:00 pm Friday, June 25th in the Chapel at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis, IN followed by burial and a gathering for refreshments.
