Obituary of Shannon Lee Hammontree
Shannon Hammontree, 85, Carmel, IN became an angel in the presence of our Lord on June, 8th 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Shannon was born on April 4, 1935 in Evansville, IN. to Evert and Virginia Adams. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1952 and married Earl Hammontree on October 10, 1953. He preceded her in death as did her parents, daughter Stacey, her sister Judy Bosecker of Evansville, and her brother Charles Adams of Owensboro, KY. She and her family lived in Evansville until 1964 when they relocated to the Indianapolis/Carmel area. Shannon was a member and former Deacon of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being involved in many church activities, especially with her special friends in the “Lunch Bunch”. She was a member of Carmel Woman’s Club, Friends of the Carmel Library, and enjoyed the Carmel and Indianapolis Symphonies, Carmel High School Sports, and the Indianapolis Colts games. She loved traveling, especially family vacations that included her kids and grandchildren, with her favorite spot being Myrtle Beach, SC. After she retired, she traveled to Europe three times, with her all-time favorite country being Ireland. She was also fortunate to have visited 48 of the 50 states. She worked as a controller at Speedway Volkswagen and Volkswagen North retiring after 20 years. Shannon is survived and will be sadly missed by her children; Jeff (Bobbie), Becky (Jim) Hanlon, Lisa (Chris) Herbert, her brother Greg (Cathy) Adams, grandchildren; Jennifer (Josh), Malori (Nick), Kyle (Shelly), Michelle, Jared, Karli, and four great-grandchildren; Caleb, Casper, Paisley, and Lydia, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Even though she is gone, she will live on through her family. She was very proud of them and enjoyed their various activities throughout her life, and was happy to have seen them grow into wonderful adults. A visitation for Shannon will be held Friday, June 12, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Leppert Mortuaries – Carmel, 900 N. Rangeline Rd., Carmel, Indiana 46032. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM. A burial will occur after the service at Carmel Cemetery, 1000 N. Rangeline, Carmel, Indiana 46032. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to The Alzheimer’s Association or Kidney Foundation.
