With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Stephen Michael Amburgey, who passed away on July 19, 2026, at the age of 36. Stephen was a beloved husband, devoted father, son, brother, and friend. Stephen was born on February 5, 1990 in Ireland to Michael and Kathleen Amburgey. He was the youngest of three children. After relocating to the United States, Stephen was raised in Savannah, Georgia where he attended Savannah Country Day School.
He graduated in 2008 as a Charter Scholar and National Merit UGA Scholar before attending the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Economics and minors in Spanish and Physics. During his corporate career he was an accomplished risk and analytics professional. He built a reputation for expertise in mathematics, serving organizations including Aon, Guy Carpenter, and McKinsey & Company. Stephen took great pride in using data and strategic thinking to help organizations navigate complex challenges.
Nothing brought Stephen greater joy than his family. After marrying Samantha Skjodt in 2022, the couple made their home in Chicago. Their greatest blessing was the birth of their daughter, Summer, in July 2025. Stephen also enjoyed golf, cooking, and music. He was a talented guitarist who found enjoyment in sharing his love of music with others.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Samantha; his cherished daughter, Summer; his father, Michael Amburgey and his wife Leoni; his brother, Thomas and his wife Hilary; his sister, Leigh; and his eight nieces and nephews. Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen.
A funeral liturgy will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 14598 Oak Ridge Road in Carmel, Indiana on Monday, July 27th at 3:00pm, followed by a reception celebrating Stephen’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brightlane Learning Centers in memory of Stephen and his passion of tutoring youth in mathematics.
