Alice Joy, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026. Born on January 23, 1939, in Kottayam, Kerala, she was the beloved daughter of V.K. Kurien and Sosamma Kurien. She was the third of nine siblings, and each of them remained dear to her heart throughout her life.
On October 20, 1963, Alice married her beloved husband, John Joy. She immigrated to the United States in 1973. Together John and Alice built a beautiful life and raised four children: Anil, Ajit, Minnie, and Lena. She welcomed Rosa, Jeanette, and Prasad as beloved members of her family and was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Jason, Matthew, Justin, Kaitlin, Angelina, Zachary, Amy, Lillie, Evan, and Noah.
Before immigrating to America, Alice studied nursing in Mumbai, India, beginning a career rooted in compassion and service. She devoted more than 20 years to caring for others at Parkland Hospital. Of all her nursing experiences, she especially cherished her time on the post-partum floor, often saying it was the happiest of all nursing jobs.
At home, she was a wonderful cook who expressed her love through food. She loved to sew, tend to her garden, and play games with her grandchildren. These everyday moments became treasured memories for those who were blessed to share them with her.
Above all, Alice's faith was at the center of her life. Her devotion to God guided her, gave her strength, and shaped the way she loved and cared for others.
Alice is survived by her beloved husband, John; her children and her grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as the loving heart of our family.
“Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me. No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only He has seen the Father. Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” John 6:45-47
