

Barbara Ann (Buyan) Craig, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026. Barbara was born on September 11, 1932, to John and Emma (Conterio) Buyan, and raised by John and Francis (Ferro) Buyan after the passing of Emma. Barbara was the oldest of three girls. She was born in Norris, Illinois and grew up in St. David, Illinois. After graduating high school, Barbara moved to Galesburg to work in her uncle’s grocery store. While there, she met and married the love of her life, Gene Craig. Gene and Barbara moved to Houston in the early 60’s where they established their family, friends and community. They had 58 beautiful years together.
Barbara was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She gained quite a reputation for her baked goods. Her kids and grandkids constantly raided her stash and during the holiday season her friends could not wait to receive a Christmas bag full of cookies and candies. Barbara also spent time supporting her church, St Frances de Sales. She was active in the choir, Women’s Club, and the yearly bazaar for many years. Working at Sharpstown Middle School, playing card games with her friends, and supporting her children’s numerous activities kept her very busy. After Gene and Barbara retired, they spent their time traveling and spoiling their grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Gene Craig, mother Emma Buyan, father and stepmother, John and Francis Buyan, and her sister, Phyllis Kovachvich.
She is survived by her son John Craig; daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Robert Carroll; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Lisa Craig; and grandchildren Ben, Will, Kristin, and Drew Carroll; and grandchildren Matthew, Addie, and Caroline (Ruby) Craig. Barbara is also survived by her sister Shirley Skinner; sister-in-law Josie Stegal; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Barbara was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
A private family service will be conducted on a future date.
