Barry Dale Broadway was born May 29, 1958, in Winnsboro, Louisiana the third of three sons of George Keller and Katherine Pauline Broadway. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana Monroe) in 1981. He had a big head and even bigger heart; he never met a stranger. He loved fiercely and was the most present and caring husband to his wife Jenny, whom he married on January 4, 1997. Barry earned the cherished title of father on December 3, 1997 when son Austin was born, and delighted in the birth of another son, Casey, on May 3, 2000. Considered the “baby whisperer” by many, there was never a fussy child he couldn't rock to sleep.
Barry’s life was defined by his deep love of family. He was a devoted and caring son to his parents. His care and love for Jenny’s parents, Leo and Verlaine Hirsch, was genuine and true. He adored his two older brothers Keller and Jeffrey, even when playtime ended up with smashing guitars. Barry was and always will be a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews and remembered as a character by his sisters- and brother-in-law.
He loved playing and refinishing guitars, and was actively involved in his children’s music programs, wearing his “band parent” title with pride. He enjoyed following and participating in sports, coaching his sons' little league baseball teams and recently rekindling his love of golf alongside his two brothers. He took joy in refurbishing his collection of second-hand lawnmowers, tinkering in his garage workshop, and Sunday rides on his Suzuki Bergman.
He cherished the time he spent with all of Nenny’s “Littles,” Barry enjoyed a good glass of merlot, a cold beer, and a sip of fine bourbon. Barry died unexpectedly May 14, 2023, just shy of his 65th birthday, surrounded by his family.
He is predeceased by his father George Keller, aunt Delores Morgan and cousin Ken Bufkin. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, sons Austin and Casey Broadway, mother Katherine Broadway, brothers Keller and wife Ella (Mercer) Broadway, and Jeffrey Broadway; aunt Olivia Kenney Bufkin and many adoring cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday May 19, 2023 at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3926 Old Denton Rd, Carrollton, Texas 75007 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. An organ and tissue donor, Barry gave in death as he gave in life.
