Bertha Marie Broach

Bertha was born on July 19, 1931, in Pilot Point, Texas to Aloysius August Berend and Mathilda Michalek Berend. Bertha lived her life defined by her Catholic faith, devotion to family and kindness to all who knew her. She grew up in Pilot Point, Tx, and carried with her the values of hard work, compassion, and humility throughout her life.

She married the love of her life, Charles Broach, on October 4th, 1952. Together they shared almost 74 wonderful years of marriage and built a loving family.

Bertha’s work life reflected her dedication and love of people. She began her career as a clerk at the Telephone company and later as an office manager for a roofing company. For over 40 years she was an Avon Lady where she built many relationships with customers who became lifelong friends. Bertha and her husband Charles enjoyed their retirement spending time with family and friends, traveling throughout the world or just spending time together at home.

She was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church for over 49 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America (past Regent) St. Elizabeth Altar Guild, (past President) and the Mothers Club. Whether it was working at church bazaars, coordinating special church receptions, or taking communion to the homebound, Bertha always demonstrated her commitment and love of serving others. She gave of herself regardless of the need.

Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Family was the center of her life. She loved spending time with her family celebrating holidays, family reunions, special occasions (or no occasion at all) and creating memories that will last forever. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She will be especially remembered for her homemade chicken spaghetti, cheesecake, and chocolate chip cookies. Everyone was always welcome in Bertha’s house. She was known as “Mom” to many of her children’s friends. She created a home where everyone felt welcome and it was a place of warmth, laughter, and love.

Bertha is survived by her husband Charles, children David Broach (Liz), Karen Brown (Ritchie), Kenneth Broach (Deborah) and Amy Broach. Grandchildren Duncan (Lindsea), Mason, Emily, and Matthew Broach; along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Philip Broach, her parents, brothers and sisters Leonard Berend, Christine Schon, Virgil Berend, Leona Mikusek.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to those who provided care, compassion, and comfort for Bertha. A funeral mass celebrating Bertha’s life will be held at 12:00n on Thursday, September 24th, 2026, in the chapel at St. Joseph’s Retirement Village, 1201 E. Sandy Lake Road, Coppell, Texas. Reception to follow mass. Private burial at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Bertha’s name to Catholic Charities of Dallas or Visiting Nurses Association Meals on Wheels.

Bertha’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure and her love, a gift that will endure forever. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren and all who knew her.
