Daniel Thomas Phelps

July 3, 1957 – March 22, 2022
Obituary of Daniel Thomas Phelps
IN THE CARE OF

Rhoton Funeral Home

Daniel Thomas Phelps was born July 3, 1957 in Bamberg, Germany while his father was serving in the US Army. Daniel passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday March 22, 2022. He is survived by his father Thomas and his sister Penni, and many cousins that were as close as siblings. He was predeceased by his mother Viola.

Daniel was a lifelong learner with wide ranging interests. He loved to research new topics, especially those dealing with any technology or home design. As a student at Austin College, he excelled in both political science and communications. He was president of the student body and appeared in several plays. He was an award winning debater and extemporaneous speaker. Anyone who ever spoke with Daniel for more than a few moments knew of not only his intellect, but incredibly clever sense of humor.

Professionally, Daniel had a very eclectic career path that matched his unending curiosity. He worked at EDS, Rockwell, and Starbucks and even worked as campaign manager for Congressman Jim Collins in the early 80s.

Although Daniel was brilliant and funny, those closest to him will remember him for his heart. He loved his family and friends. He was the epitome of a “big brother,” who fiercely protected and supported his little sister throughout her life. He loved family gatherings and could be counted on to make everyone laugh. The many dogs and cats that entered his life were immediately drawn to him. Even his beloved Cody, who didn’t like many people, adored Daniel. His family and friends knew him as a kind and thoughtful man. He was a gentle and sensitive soul that cared deeply for those around him.

His smile, wit and kindness will be deeply missed.
