
Growing up on the East Coast, she attended private school at The Hewlett School in East Islip, New York where she excelled in worldly studies, literature, sciences and sports. After graduating she lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and worked for Rice & Holman Ford, Clairol and was a manager at Teterboro Airport in Bergen County, New Jersey. In her early twenties she followed in her mother's footsteps and on March 9, 1967 was initiated as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and went on to become a Worthy Matron of the Collingswood Chapter in New Jersey. She frequently traveled to Barbados where her mother was born and extended family still resides. In the early 1980's, she devoted her life to taking care of her mother in Arlington,Texas and since has lived in Carrollton.
Dorothy was a fun loving, vivacious and spiritual soul who devoted her life to The Lord. She always made people laugh sharing stories and with a joyous heart was always spreading the Word of God to all of those around her. She loved sharing her fond memories of living on the East Coast, her travels to Barbados and proudly spoke of her family lineage. She had a special place in her heart for her family. Dorothy loved hunting, water sports, cooking, playing field hockey, reading scripture and playing with her nieces and nephews. In later years as her health limited many physical activities, she became an avid flower gardener.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles N.Cooper Jr., Richard F. Cooper, sister, Ruth H. Cooper Wofford and nephew Oscar A. Wofford III. She is survivedby her good friend and caregiver Diana J. Morrison, nieces Charleen Cooper Turner and Sandra Wofford Lantrip, nephews Rick Cooper, Glenn Cooper, Mark Cooper and Gregory Wofford. Amongst them, she is survived by 2 great niecesand 11 great nephews.
The viewing will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 4 p.m.- 6p.m. at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 S. IH-35E, Carrollton, TX. The burial service is Monday January 13,2014 at 2 p.m. at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, TX .
