

He worked for 5 years in Buenos Aires at Dupont Corporation where he met lifelong friends.
In February 1953 George came to the U.S. via working on a steamship and landed in New Orleans. His father worked at Lone Star Cement and there was a plant there so he got a job working as a store room keeper. In December 1953 he went to a church Christmas dance and met his wife Marjorie Hockwald. They married 3 months later in March 1954. Those 3 months turned into 62 years!
From 1954 to 1962 served proudly in the Army Reserves.
They were transferred to Lake Charles LA. In 1956 with mom 7 months pregnant with their daughter Cathy and their son Harry was born 2 years later in 1958. In Lake Charles each Saturday night was card night with friends and watching boxing.
In 1966 George was transferred to Dallas and moved to Farmes Branch and in 1968 he welcomed another son Brennan. One month later he was transferred to Bonner Springs, Kansas, but moved the family to Kansas City, Kansas and drove 30 miles to work each way for his children to go to Catholic schools.
In 1973 he moved the family back to Dallas, as he did not want to face another caold winter. He worked at General Portland Cement.
In 1975, Jay Hamel came to live with the family and took him in as a third son.
In 1975 George went to work for Saint Rita Catholic Church as business manager.
In 1978 he transferred to Mary Immaculate as busssiness manager until his retirement in 1996.
For his retirement he rehabbed houses, Southern Greenery his plant company and enjoyed family time.
In 1990 George took on the name of Poppy by his granddaughter Camille and was then known to all by Poppy from then on.
He lived a full life not knowing a stranger, loving sports and people. He made a lot of contributions to people’s lives with his positive ways. He will be missed by many.
George is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Crowe, father Harry Crowe, Mother Eremalinda Crowe, sister Alicia Crowe, brothers Edward and Arthur Crowe.
He is survived by daughter Cathy and son in law Wayne League, son Harry and his children Camille and Garrett, son Brennan and his wife Kathleen Crowe and their daughter Donegal. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and of course an abundance of caring friends.
Visitation will be at Rhoton Funeral Home on June 6th 6:00-8:00 pm with Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 7th at 1:00 pm at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church with Msgr. Leon Duesman presiding. Reception to follow at Knights of Columbus 2280 Springlake Rd. #100 Farmers Branch, TX 75234. The committal service with military honors will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery at 4:00pm.
