Gloria Baldwin, 82, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away on September 13, 2023. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 12, 1940. She married her husband, William “Bill” Baldwin on March 3, 1961 and the two had three children together. Bill was in the Air Force and that meant a lot of changes; there were a lot of moves to a lot of places with multiple children in tow and Gloria handled each and every one of them with grace.
She went on to receive her RN certification from Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. After receiving her certification, she worked as a labor & delivery nurse at Greenville Memorial Hospital. After retiring from nursing, Gloria and Bill decided to move from Quinlan, Texas to Lewisville, Texas to be closer to their family, where she lived until her passing.
Gloria was something of a renaissance woman. She could do almost anything: cake decorating, needlepoint, painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing; it did not matter what she did, but whatever it was, it always came out great.
Her biggest passion was quilting. Quilting gave her some of the best friends she had ever had, including her sister Mary and many dear friends after her sister (and partner-in-crime) Janelle left us way too soon. Any time you saw or talked to Gloria, she was most likely working on a quilt, usually at night because she was certainly a night-owl. Her travels typically were on quilting retreats & cruises where she was able to spend weeks or weekends at a time with her friends, having the time of her life. And she was always up for travel, whether it was the quilt cruises, travel planned well in advance, or last minute adventures.
Above all else, what Gloria loved the most was her family. She was always there when you needed her. It could just be her giving you a hug, or saying the right words at the right time. She made everyone feel special and her love was endless.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Nellie Glisan, and sisters Janelle McElroy and Margaret Buchanan. Gloria is survived by her husband, William Baldwin, children, Todd Baldwin, Kristen Scott and her husband Don, and Daniel Baldwin; grandchildren, Sean Baldwin and his wife Sharon, Alexia McCartney and her husband Alistair, Matthew Baldwin, Chelsea Scott, Jordan Scott, Garret Grace, and Danielle Heming; great-grandchildren, Benjamin McCartney and two more on the way. along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Glisan, and sister Mary Greene, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Gloria will take place on Sunday. September 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Rhoton Funeral Home, located at 1511 South I-35E Carrollton, TX 75006 followed by a reception and appetizers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Teachers Need Us (teachersneedus.org), the nonprofit founded and run by her granddaughters
Chelsea and Alexia, and her grandson-in-law Alistair.
