Ione Rea Hewett

Services for Ione Rea Hewett, 96, formerly of Lubbock, will be at 6:15 pm Friday, February 24, 2012 in Rhoton Funeral Chapel in Carrollton,with Herman Cain officiating. Additional services will be conducted at 1 pm on Monday, February 27, 2012 in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock with Rev. Ross Dunn officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Mrs. Hewett passed away on Tuesday, February 21st in Carrolton.

Ione was born on August 28, 1915 in Commanche County, Texas to Enos and Dora Roberson Rea. They moved to Lubbock County by wagon when she was 7 years old. She graduated from Plainview High School and married Russell G. Hewett on July 1, 1939 in Plainview. In Lubbock she had worked at Lena Stephens, S&H Green Stamps and Little Mademoiselle Shop. Following her husband’s death, she moved to Abilene where she worked at Hendricks Home for Children for 20 years, retiring in 1981. Following retirement she moved to Carrollton and continued working at Valley View Child Care for 15 years.

She was a charter member of Forrest Heights United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was awarded special membership in the Women’s Society of Christian Service.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, James R. Hewett.

Those left to cherish her memory include 3 sons, Gayland and Netty Hewett of Carrollton, Keith and Nancy Hewett, and Bill and Val Hewett all of Lubbock; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
