Jack Edwin Bryer went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 14, 2025, at the age of 90. His life was a testament to faith, service, and devotion—both to his family and to the Gospel he cherished and shared.
Jack was born on May 14, 1935, in Rockford, Illinois, to Jack and Francis Bryer. Raised in the greater Chicago area, Jack came to know Christ at a young age and actually preached a sermon in his Methodist church when he was 14. His early years were marked by a deep faith and active involvement in scouting, where his sense of duty and integrity began to take root.
Following high school, Jack served his country with honor in the United States Army, spending two years at Camp Irwin. After his discharge, he pursued higher education, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and his master’s degree from New York University.
While working in Lancaster, Ohio, Jack met the love of his life, Patricia. After a courtship filled with shared faith and vision, they were married on January 26, 1963. The following year, In March of 1964, they moved to Texas, where they would build their life together for the next 63 years.
Jack’s professional journey was as diverse as it was industrious. He worked as a manufacturer’s representative, a realtor, a broker, and an insurance agent. But beyond his career, it was his ministry and service to others that truly defined him.
He was a faithful member of Gideons International, passionately distributing God’s Word and supporting the work of spreading the Gospel. Jack was active for many years at Northwest Bible Church, where he served on the missions committee and as a deacon, and later worshiped and served at Stonebriar Community Church. His heart for missions led him on trips to Guatemala and Moldova, and he generously gave his time volunteering at Union Gospel Mission and local high schools.
A lover of good stories, Jack was an avid reader who devoured thrillers by James Patterson and Tom Clancy. He also enjoyed classic war movies, often staying up late into the night engrossed in tales of courage and conflict.
Above all, Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his daughter Michelle Harrell and her husband Robert; his sons Chris Bryer and his wife Julie, James Bryer and his wife Cynthia, and Mark Bryer and his wife Cristyne; a large and loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also survived by his brothers Ronald Bryer of Rockford, Illinois, and Thomas Bryer of Sycamore, Illinois.
Jack’s life was anchored in the promises of Scripture, and one of his favorite passages was Psalm 27:13–14:
**"I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."**
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to **Gideons International**, an organization close to Jack’s heart and a reflection of his lifelong dedication to sharing the Word of God.
Jack Edwin Bryer has finished his race and kept the faith. He now rests in the presence of the Savior he served so faithfully—a life well-lived and a legacy of love and faith that will continue for generations.
Funeral services will be held on October 30 at 10:30am at Stonebriar Community Church, 4801 Legendary Dr, Frisco, TX 75034. He will be buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
