Jimmy Lee Freytag, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 84. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at the Hummingbird Room at Lake Murray Lodge, 3323 Lodge Road, Ardmore, Oklahoma 73401.
Jimmy was born on May 15, 1941, in Roscoe, Texas, to the late Anton and Martha Freytag. He was raised on a farm in Scurry County, Texas, alongside his brother and two sisters, where he learned the value of hard work, dedication, and family—principles that guided him throughout his life.
After graduating from Hermleigh High School, Jimmy co-owned a service station before beginning his career with the Abilene Police Department. He later spent the majority of his professional life with Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, starting in Abilene and working in several cities before becoming co-owner of the Firestone store in Lewisville, Texas. He remained there until his retirement, building not only a successful business but lasting friendships and a reputation for integrity and commitment.
In 1982, Jimmy met the love of his life, Midge. They were married on March 5, 1986, in Denton, Texas, beginning a partnership filled with adventure, laughter, and deep devotion. Following retirement, Jimmy and Midge embraced life on the open road in their RV, traveling throughout the United States and visiting Mexico and Canada. Among their favorite destinations were Glacier National Park and the Canadian Icefields, places that reflected their shared love of natural beauty and exploration. They spent summers in San Antonio, Texas, where Jimmy became affectionately known as the “unofficial mayor” of their RV park, often cooking breakfast and barbecue for friends and neighbors, bringing people together with his generous spirit and warm smile.
Jimmy had a passion for investing in real estate, building custom smokers, and supporting Midge in her many hobbies. Above all, he cherished his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found immense joy in time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love, guidance, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Mike Freytag, Dave Turner, Cindy Kaylor, and Cathy McNutt; his brother, Tommy L. Freytag; his sisters, Dorothy McKenzie and Barbara Harvel; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Martha Freytag, his beautiful wife, Midge, and his daughter Angie.
Jimmy’s life was defined by hard work, loyalty, generosity, and love for family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, and the memories shared by those who knew him best.
