Margaret was born on September 28, 1952, to John and Cyntha (Sherman) Marshall in Enid, Oklahoma. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Hennessey, where she was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, played saxophone in the high school marching band, and formed many lifelong friendships.
She graduated from Hennessey High School in 1970 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, where she pursued a degree in art. It was there that she met the love of her life, Steve Meek. Steve often gloated at marrying an older woman, but also one who could buy him beer when the legal drinking age for women was 18 and men was 21. Their shared sense of humor and deep devotion to one another became the foundation of a marriage that began on January 19, 1973, and was filled with love until Steve's passing in 2008.
In March 1974, Steve and Margaret welcomed their first daughter, Anne, and made their permanent home in Weatherford. In November 1986, they welcomed their second daughter, Megan. Margaret cherished being a mother. She taught her daughters how to sew, tend to a garden, and, most importantly, how to live with compassion and a servant's heart.
Margaret's greatest gift was caring for others. Over the years, she lovingly cared for countless children in her home before joining the Weatherford Public Schools, where she served as the high school cafeteria manager. In 2010, she retired from her career and moved to Texas to embrace what she considered her most important role yet: becoming a full-time Mamaw.
Service was woven into every part of Margaret's life. She generously shared her time and talents through the Women's Auxiliary for the Army National Guard in Weatherford, First United Methodist Church in Weatherford, the Coppell Lions Club, Touch A Life in Ghana, and First United Methodist Church in Coppell. Over the decades, Margaret received numerous honors and recognitions in appreciation of her steadfast service, generous spirit, and lifelong dedication to others.
Margaret will be remembered for her gentle smile, kind heart, loyal friendship, the ability to fall asleep within 3 minutes in any car or boat, and her love for sucking the juice out of limes (and her trademark post-lime shiver).
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Steve Meek, and by her parents, John and Cyntha Marshall.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Anne White and her husband, Brad, of Northlake, Texas, and Megan Satlof and her husband, David, of Irving, Texas; her cherished grandson, Griffin White of Denton, Texas, who proudly held the title of her favorite grandson; her brother, Earl Marshall of Hennessey, Oklahoma; her sisters, Coralen Cain of Enid, Oklahoma, Pansy Wheeler of Hennessey, Oklahoma, and Joan Tribble of The Colony, Texas; her many beloved nieces and nephews; as well as Steve's family, whom she loved dearly: Juanita Jones of Yukon, Oklahoma; Harold Meek and his wife, Kathy, of San Marcos, California; and Zelta Bennett of El Reno, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Coppell, Texas. A graveside service will be held on July 25, 2026, at 10:00am at Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, Oklahoma where she will be reunited with Steve. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at First United Methodist Church in Weatherford, OK.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the CJD Foundation, Touch A Life (touchalifekids.org), or First United Methodist Church in Coppell.
Margaret's life was defined not by grand accomplishments, but by the quiet, faithful ways she loved others. She made people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the friends she treasured, and the countless lives made better by her kindness. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.
