Marie Mirmont Vo (or “Ba Ngoai”) was born on January 22, 1923 in Go Cong, Viet Nam to Felix Mirmont and Quan Thi Truong. Her father, Felix, was from Corse, a French island between France and Italy. He was the director of a French school in Go Cong where he met Ba Ngoai’s mother, a local Vietnamese girl.

Ba Ngoai studied at a premier French grade school. She was a proud domestic engineer and mother to 10 children. She settled with her husband and family in Tam Binh, Viet Nam, farming rice and fresh produce. In 1991, Ba Ngoai moved to Carrollton, Texas with her beloved husband where she resided until her passing. Ba Ngoai will be remembered as the heart of the family with her jovial spirit, infectious laugh, kindness, and generosity. She enjoyed being silly with her loved ones and was known for her love of life and love of giving. As a young girl and throughout her adult life, she devoted herself to helping others -- treating neighbors as family. As a nod to her French heritage, she loved fresh bread and pastries -- kicking off every morning with a cup of warm milk and croissants. Ba Ngoai also loved to sing French folk songs such as Frère Jacques (“Are You Sleeping?”) and Au Clair de la Lune (“By the Light of the Moon”) while keeping a close eye on her great grandchildren as they played.

She was preceded in death by her father, Felix Mirmont (Corse, France); mother, Quan Thi Truong (Viet Nam); husband, The Cong Vo (Carrollton, TX); sister, Ri Cynthia Staples (Kittery, Maine); brother, Louis Mirmont (Frejus, France); daughter, Yen-Ngoc Vo (Viet Nam); son, Cong-Tu Vo (Viet Nam); and son, Hoang-Tuan Vo (Viet Nam). Ba Ngoai is survived by her sister-in-law, Chuc Mirmont (France); son, Cong-Ton Vo (Viet Nam); daughter, Yen-Anh Nguyen (Arlington, TX); son, Cong-Man Vo (Viet Nam); daughter, Yen-Tuyet Nguyen (Viet Nam); daughter and caretaker, Yen-Thuy Huynh (Carrollton, TX); son-in-law and caretaker, Thanh Kim Huynh (Carrollton, TX); son, Cong-Minh Vo (Viet Nam); and daughter, Yen-Phuong Vo (Carrollton, TX); 26 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Ba Ngoai will be forever loved and forever missed by her family and close friends. “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our heart, and we are never, ever the same.”
