Martha Richard was born in Francis, Oklahoma to Frank and Lucille Wright. They settled in the Fairdale neighborhood in Dallas when she was in third grade. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1950 she worked for General Electric and married her high school sweetheart, Joe Richard in 1954. Initially living in Long Beach, Ca while he was finishing up his Navy stint, they returned to Dallas, then moved in 1960 to land inherited by Joe in Northeast Garland. They designed and built their house themselves and raised 3 children at their farm, rich in family history.
Over the next 53 years, their house continually changed and evolved through her creativity and collections of family memorabilia and those of her and Joe's interest, ever changing with the ebb and flow of their lives.
Martha was an incredible seamstress with an engineering mind that designed and created gowns for pageants and debutantes. She later became involved in the Wearable Artist community which opened up a whole new creative aspect that she applied to clothes for herself, winning awards as well.
Martha and Joe literally travelled the world, since 1992, visiting every continent including the Antarctica. She was always happy to return home, but soon was planning their next big adventure.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe W. Richard, son Brady Richard and his wife Vickie; daughter Rhonda Richard; daughter Kyra Hoggett and husband Heath; grandchildren Starley and Camille Richard and Macy Hoggett; and sister Francille Hooten and husband Bill with daughters Kim Bond and Amy Johnson.
