Merry Davellyn Boykin

Raised in West Texas, Merry graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1955, earning her master’s degree in Music.

Merry devoted 15 years to education as a music teacher and choir director, serving multiple school districts and campuses including Tom C Gooch Elementary, Winn Seale Jr. in Corpus Christi, and Nathan Adams Elementary, among others. While her professional work was meaningful, she considered her proudest title to be homemaker to her husband and their two daughters.

In 1961, she married Robert S. Boykin. Together they welcomed two daughters, Robina Boykin and Nancy Boykin, and built a family that remained at the center of her life.

Merry was an intelligent, witty, and musically inclined woman with an outgoing personality and a gift for putting others at ease. She enjoyed reading, occasionally sewing, and growing roses. Though she majored in piano in college, her deepest passion was singing. Above all, she was a loving mother who cared deeply for her family, and her steady devotion will be remembered with gratitude and respect.

She was preceded in death by her father, Davis Bodie, and her mother, Gladys Bodie. She is survived by her husband, Robert Boykin; her daughters, Robina Boykin and Nancy Boykin.

A viewing will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South Interstate 35e, Carrollton, TX 75006, on March 30, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at the same location on March 30, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
