Mildred “Millie” Grady, 85, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Millie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Born at home in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 14, 1940, she was the daughter of Dr. William J. Gleeson and Mildred Kelly Gleeson. Her love of the Jersey Shore was a call home that remained with her throughout her life. While she lived more years in Texas than in NJ, she often said, "you can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can't take the Jersey out of the girl."
Millie earned a B.S. degree from St. Joseph’s College, Emmitsburg, MD. Majoring in Home Economics with a focus in dietetics, she was a skilled nutritionist and cook, holding various positions as a teacher of dietetics at Henry Snyder High School, equipment demonstrator and tester at Brooklyn Union Gas Company, representing them at the 1964 World’s Fair, and later as an independent caterer for over 20 years.
She married her best friend and the love of her life, Bob Grady, in 1964 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Jersey City, later moving to Bloomfield, NJ in 1967 and then to Texas in 1972. With no extended family in Texas, she adopted the Parks, Campbell, Stripling, and Ossian families as her own. Millie raised 4 children and was a longtime parishioner of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Her unwavering faith in God sustained her throughout her life.
Millie will be remembered for her welcoming smile, her compassion, kindness and generosity, her loving heart, her joyful spirit, her passion for cooking, her Irish heritage, her love of the ocean, and devotion to faith, family, and friends. She was a devoted mother of 4, grandmother of 4, and aunt to 40 nieces and nephews. She made friends everywhere she went and was known by name to countless neighbors, as well as to grocery store and restaurant staff.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert Grady; her children Jennifer, Robert, William (Linda), and Amelia; her grandchildren Sean (fiancée Kori Mullen), Patrick, Jared (Jasmine), and Alessandra, and 35 nieces and nephews.
Millie was preceded in death by her siblings Alice McGovern (John) and William Gleeson (Sarah); by her in-laws Thomas Grady (Doris), Margaret Grady, William Grady (Anne), Joan Keane, Anthony Grady (Margaret), Catherine Grady, and Marianne Grady; by her nieces Joanne Mitchell, Eileen McCarrick, and godchild Kelly Gleeson, and by her nephews Daniel Gleeson and Joseph Grady.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, December 8, from 4-7 p.m. at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 S. Interstate 35-E in Carrollton. A funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, December 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 12521 Inwood Rd. Dallas, TX, with reception immediately afterwards in the St. Rita Commons, and then burial at 2:15 p.m. at the DFW National Military Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St Joseph’s Indian School.
