Nicholas James Theis

Nick was born July 29, 1946 to Nicholas Theis and Margaret Marie Theis (nee Folsom) in Willmar, Minnesota. He was the eldest of three children. Nick married Linda Murray of Scottsdale, Arizona on December 29, 1973.

He graduated from Queens University of Kingston, Ontario, Canada with a PhD in Geology in 1976 and did post-graduate studies in uranium geology. Nick worked as an exploration and petroleum geologist for more than 25 years.

He also enjoyed travel and devoted much of his time and resources to his hobby mineral business and interests in nature photography and family genealogy. After retiring from Mobil Oil in 2000, Nick taught introductory geology at Brookhaven Community College and Dallas County Community College for 3 years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Nick Theis (1983), and mother, Margaret Theis (2012). Nick is survived by his wife, Linda, of Carrollton, TX and their three children: Jennifer and Nicholas of Carrollton, TX, and Kristina of Atlanta, GA. He is further survived by his siblings and their spouses: Steven and Jane Theis of Greenfield, MN; Colleen and Don Melvin of Baldwin, WI; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Carrollton, TX. Interment will follow at his family plot at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hector, MN.
