Nina Modene Lentz, born on January 4, 1940, in Blossom, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 20, 2025, in The Colony, Texas. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Modene lived her life with one purpose at the center: to lead people to Jesus. She never missed an opportunity to share God’s love — whether with family, friends, or complete strangers. If you spent even a few minutes with her, you walked away knowing about the Savior she loved so deeply. Her faith wasn’t something she kept quiet or tucked away. It was her heartbeat. She spoke about Jesus at the grocery store, in waiting rooms, at church, and in her own home. Her life was a testimony. She prayed boldly, loved generously, and believed wholeheartedly. Because of her, many people came to know Christ, and many more were reminded of His grace.
She loved her family with a fierce and tender devotion. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by the people she loved, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. To her, family wasn’t just important — it was her greatest blessing. She celebrated every milestone, big or small, and she was always the first to offer a hug, a prayer, or a word of encouragement. As a mother, she was our steady place. As a grandmother, she was pure delight — cheering from the sidelines, spoiling with love, and making each grandchild and great grandchild feel like they were the most special person in the world.
She created a home where love was felt in every corner, where laughter grew loud, and where you always knew you belonged. Her family was the joy of her life, and her love will stay with us forever.
She shared a long and loving marriage with her husband, Jack D. Lentz, Sr. Together they raised three children: Jack Donald (Donny) Lentz, Jr. and his wife Debra Lentz; Sharon Annette Shields; and Jacqueline Gay Ray. Modene’s legacy continues through her grandchildren — Lisa Anne Ray, Steven Daniel Lentz, Kevin Michael Lentz and his wife Chelzee Lentz, Joshua Blake Shields, Lori Dene Ray, Christopher Jay Lentz and his wife Erika Lentz, and Cody Jack Ray — as well as her great-grandchildren Andrew Christian Ray, Jordan Drake Shields, Trinity Jade Starks, Robyn Michelle Termin, Camila Rose Lentz and Clara Ann Ray; and great-great-granddaughters Zariah Deja Ray and Avianna Cora Ray.
Modene was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Bynum Dougan and Tommie Dougan; her parents Jay Curtis Johnson and Bonnie Irene Johnson; her brother Jimmie Curtis Johnson; sister-in-law Sharon Louise Farmer Johnson; nephew Bryan Curtis Johnson; and niece Kristi Jayrene Johnson.
She has finished her work here, but the seeds she planted for the Kingdom will keep growing for generations. Her voice, her example, and her faith will continue to lead others to Jesus — just as she always wanted.
