On Monday, August 2nd, our beloved husband and father Rowdy passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He lived the 71 years of his life with joy and love, and always believed that “a cheerful heart is good medicine.” Rowdy leaves behind his cherished wife of 29 years, Denise Stanton, daughter Tammie Stewart and husband Ryan, and son of his heart David Miller and wife Kim. Preceded in death by his parents Rowell Cheatham Stanton, Sr. and Jean Franklin Stanton, he is also survived by his sister Martha VanDerMallie, nephews Robert and Douglas VanDerMallie, grandchildren Cole, William, Lauren, Emma Claire, and Colby. Born in Rome, GA, as a young man Rowdy received an academic scholarship to the prestigious Darlington School in Rome, graduating in 1956. He went to earn his B.A. from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity, served in the Army Reserve during this time, and was active in the Georgia Bulldog Alumni Dallas/ Ft. Worth Chapter for over 25 years after his move to the Dallas area. Rowdy completed his studies at North Texas State University, receiving a Master’s of Science degree in 1981. Professionally, Rowdy was a CPA, specializing in tax accounting from 1982 until his retirement in 2007. But Rowdy considered his greatest achievement to be one that happened once he moved to Dallas in 1969—meeting the love of his life, Denise. After a 10 year friendship, the two decided to take their relationship to the next level, and they married 6 months later on November 7, 1980. Rowdy was so proud of his wife and family, and with a twinkle in his eye, turned most conversations he had into ones about them. Nothing was too good for them, and nothing mattered more to him. Rowdy enjoyed summer vacations on the beach, and had a love for sports throughout his life. We will greatly miss and always remember his guidance, his light, and his love. Memorial service to be held Thursday, August 5th at the First United Methodist Church in Coppell, TX at 10:00am
Arrangements under the direction of Rhoton Funeral Home, Carrollton, TX.
