

It is with profound sadness that the family of Ruth Ednah Stewart Cochran announces her peaceful passing on January 19, 2026, at the age of 77. She passed surrounded by loved ones in her home in Carrollton, Texas. Ruthie is survived by her husband, Ken; her daughter Kimberly and her wife Debbie Hutchins; her son Ken Jr and his wife Kristie Cochran; her grandchildren, Andrew Harper, Matthew Harper, and Hannah Cochran; her great-grandchildren, Connor, David, and Zachary; her sister, Nancy and her husband Mike Bradley; and her brother-in-law, Don and his wife Debbie Cochran. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Born on February 12, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Jack and Margaret Stewart, Ruthie grew to be a beacon of kindness, humor and unwavering support. Ruthie graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now known as Louisiana Tech University) with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary education in 1970. From there, taught elementary and grade school classes, inspiring countless young minds. Ruthie met her husband, Ken Cochran, in college on a blind date, and they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, travel and great memories. Ruthie went on to assume many roles and responsibilities that culminated in a career serving as a financial manager for many assisted living facilities across the Dallas area.
Ruthie loved to travel. She enjoyed the Albuquerque Balloon Festival and filled her sense of excitement by actually taking a ride on a hot-air balloon. She planned her 25th wedding anniversary with Ken as trip to the Napa Valley to sample a blend of worldclass wineries, exquisite dining, relaxation and stunning natural beauty across the charming California towns. Ruthie and Ken found some of their greatest adventures exploring the world by sea, from Alaskan glaciers to Caribbean sunsets and swimming with the dolphins. Other adventures include going through the Panama Canal on a twelve-day cruise with Ken, as well as celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren on a Caribbean cruise. Her most favorite trip was to France along with close friends, Don and Diane Goldfarb.
A service to celebrate Ruthie’s life will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 S Interstate 35E, Carrollton, Texas. A visitation with family and friends will precede the funeral service starting at 9:30 AM. Interment will be held at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3225 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX, after the funeral service. Her spirit, generosity and warm smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
