

Savior, Jesus Christ on September 10, 2015 after a 5 year battle with dementia. She passed
peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was a long-time resident of Flower
Mound, Texas and member of Lakeland Baptist Church. She was 64.
Shirley was born in Celina, Texas on April 6, 1951 to Malcom (late) and Mary Shields. She was
raised in Carrollton, Texas and graduated from R. L. Turner High School. She attended North
Texas State University where she studied accounting.
Shirley enjoyed the simple pleasures of life most, in particular, spending time with family and
friends and through practicing her faith. She took pleasure in planting flowers, gardening, and
capturing the beauty of nature through photography. Unbeknownst to many, Shirley often wrote
poetry to proclaim the beauty of the world and her faith in the Lord.
Shirley was the loving wife and best friend of her surviving husband, Kenneth R. Hoover, with
whom she was married 44 years. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kristy
and Kevin Trick; granddaughter Jocelyn Hoover; great-grandsons Axel and Ryker Waitman;
mother Mary Shields; three brothers and their wives Bill and Shelia Shields, Jerry and Cindy
Shields, Carl and Sherry Shields; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear
friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday September 15th between the hours of 5-9 PM at Rhoton Funeral
Home, 1511 1-35E, Carrollton, Texas. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 AM on
Wednesday, September 16th at Rhoton Funeral Home. Long-time family friend. Pastor J. Mark
Dallalio will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A private
reception to celebrate her life will follow at her daughter's home.
