Steve was born on June 12, 1959, in Piqua, Ohio, to Jacque Duane Neer and Martha Ann Gustin Neer. He was raised in Fulton, Missouri. At the age of 18, he moved to Lewisville, Texas with his sister, Lori, where he would eventually build the life and family that meant everything to him.
In 1987, Steve met the love of his life, Veronica, in Lewisville, Texas. They married on June 19, 1990, in Plano, Texas. Together, Steve and Veronica built a beautiful life and raised their two daughters, Kari and Christy, in Carrollton, Texas.
Steve was most proud of his family and the life they created together. He bought his first truck, purchased a house, raised his girls, and made lifelong friends. Some of his happiest memories were spent having family cookouts, going on camping trips, fishing, swimming at the lake, drinking a cold beer, and just spending time with the people he loved.
Steve’s personality will not be forgotten. He was funny, blunt, outspoken, unfiltered and always made people laugh. He loved a good time and lived life his own way. He enjoyed a good party, a shot of whiskey, and some crab legs! He loved cats, watching SIFI, wrestling, and rock and roll. Steve loved going to the Texas State Fair every year, going on vacation to Cancun, and, of course, anything that involved family and friends.
His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart, and he was happiest when he was surrounded by them. He loved his daughters, his wife, his extended family, all his nieces and nephews, and the many friends he made throughout his life. His love was strong, genuine, and unconditional.
Steve was the kind of person who never truly lost touch with anyone. He would call you out of the blue just to ask how you were doing. Sometimes he would simply show up and hang out for a while. Whether he was drinking a beer with you, sitting around at a family gathering, jumping into a brawl in the front yard, or helping to fix your plumbing, Steve was there.
He had a way of making his presence known, and his absence is already felt deeply. His jokes, his laughter, his stubbornness, his colorful language, and his big personality will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Angelo; his mother, Martha Ann Gustin Neer; his father, Jacque Duane Neer; his fathers-in-law; and his grandparents.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Veronica Perez Neer; his children; Kari Mancha (Randall Canada), Christine Zavala (Ray Zavala); his grandchildren, Angel Ray Zavala II, Veronica Reese (Evan Reese) Kaili Mancha (Ivan Franco), Callie Bergolla (Michael Bergolla).
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Herminia Cantu; sister, Laura Ann Neer Minton; brothers, David Carl Neer and Aaron Joseph Cole; sisters-in-law; Maria Fuentes (Alvaro Fuentes), Olga Fuentes (Frank Fuentes), and Raymond Perez (Sheila Perez), Reynolds Perez; and his many beloved nieces and nephews, Lacey Minton, Trevor Neer, Steven Cole, Jason Perry, Victor Soto, Krystal DePaz (Joel DePaz), Randi Nicole Mobley (God-Daughter), Ray Perez II, Bill Perez, Caliesta Perez, Frank Fuentes Jr (Diana Fuentes), Zack Perez, and Maddison Perez, Thomas Wilson Jr, and many great nieces and nephews.
He may no longer be here to call out of the blue, show up unexpectedly, share a beer, tell a wild story, or make everyone laugh with his unmistakable sense of humor—but the love he gave so freely will forever be with us, and he will be missed more than words can say
