Born on March 17, 1963 in Seoul, South Korea to Jung-Hoon Cho and Soo-Bok Baek, Sung Rae grew up in Seoul and earned his Business degree from Korea University in 1985 - a school he remained fiercely proud of, later serving as President of the Korea University Dallas Alumni Association. He went on to serve his country with distinction as a Sergeant and photographer in KATUSA (Korean Augmentation To the United States Army).
In 1989, he married Okkyung Rho. He launched his career as an exporter at Samsung Trading Corporation before finding his true calling as a General Contractor, spending decades bringing beautiful restaurants and stores to life across Texas - including several beloved sushi restaurants he was especially proud of. He had a gift for building things that made people happy, and he never missed a chance to take his kids to see his latest project, beaming the whole time.
To know Sung Rae was to know someone who made every room brighter. He was a social butterfly with a razor-sharp wit, a warm heart, and an impeccable sense of style - never without his signature Rolex. He loved golf, tennis, fishing, karaoke, and dancing, but perhaps nothing brought him more joy than photography. Armed with his camera, he would contort himself into whatever position necessary to capture the perfect shot - a dedication his family found equal parts endearing and chaotic. At any given family gathering, you could count on Sung Rae to be crouching behind a bush, leaning over a railing, or accidentally stepping in front of someone else's camera in pursuit of his "money shot."
He had a joke for every occasion and a smile that never quit.
Sung Rae was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jung-Hoon Cho and Soo-Bok Baek. He is survived by his wife, Okkyung Rho; his son, Kavin Cho; and his daughter, Christina Cho. He was one of a kind, and he will be missed more than words can say.
