OBITUARY

Syd Phillip Lambert

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Syd Phillip Lambert, born 1933 in Detroit, Michigan… woke up with the clouds far behind him. Syd passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2020. Syd’s journey took him from coast to coast, including Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Boston. However, New York City is where he felt most at home and settled with the love of his life, his husband John Kuntz (television writer & Emmy award winner). Given his humble beginnings, Syd’s purpose in life was to make others feel loved and accepted. Along the way, he touched so many lives. Syd did many things, from working at Boston Music, singing and acting, to becoming a Registered Nurse caring for others.

He found creative and meaningful ways to make a difference. Syd always had a gift for telling a story in such a way that kept you wanting to hear more about the people, the places, and the things that he experienced. You never had to wonder about what Syd was thinking. He was fierce, bold and direct. Syd loved to travel, his favorite being Paris where he spent many days sipping fine wine and strolling the Champs-Élysées. Syd was preceded in death by his husband John Kuntz, and his parents, Louis Lambert and Ethel Greene, and his siblings – Sally, Ethel (Tete), Dodo (Florence), Lois, Louis, Floyd, Frank and Sy. Survived by his many friends and family.

…if happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why oh why can’t I?

Syd was the uncle I always wanted!!! I will miss his soft sweet voice and the stories of days gone by that were always better than any book I had ever read. Impeccable taste and always the life of the party!! Always dressed for the occasion and left smiles and warm hearts with anyone that was blessed to be in his presence. I love you Syd....I bet it is beautiful where you are!!! I will miss you dearly.

My husband and I were blessed to share Sundays with Michael, Ryan and Syd at Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill. He and I shared a love for Champagne, Preston (he loved him dearly), Helena and the entire staff. Many times we held hands and he told us he loved us. I will forever cherish my time with Syd Lambert. He made a difference in so many lives...ours included. SEE YOU OVER THE RAINBOW MY FRIEND.

Syd always spoke his mind, and it usually made me either laugh or blush. He always made sure to say “I love you” when he parted company...and he meant it when he said it. I miss you Syd! Thank you for being in my life for the short time you were.

One October I was visiting Syd in NYC and he went to the thrift store, bough a TON of costume jewelry, and would carry it around with him all over Manhattan. Syd would randomly go up to ladies and give them a piece of jewelry that he thought would look good on them.

Syd always asked the New York cab drivers what their nationality was, and would greet them in their native language. He said that he worked with someone that taught him greetings in a lot of languages. Syd always said - if they can come here and learn our crazy language, the least I can do is said hello in theirs.
