After completing his education, in 1975 he moved to Muscat, Oman and worked there until 1980. On May 25, 1978, he married his beloved wife Annamma Thomas (Alice). Soon after in 1980, he joined his wife to settle in the United States. He lived in various cities including Staten Island, NY and then moved to Houston, TX. Then in 1982 as a family, relocated back to Bronx, NY and eventually settled in Yonkers, NY. Thankachen worked at a printing press in New York City for 20 years.
He was a member of St. Andrews Mar Thoma Church in New York for many years. In 2016, Thankachen and Alice moved to Texas to be closer to their kids and became members of The Mar Thoma Church of Dallas - Carrollton.
Thankachen was a devoted husband, father, uncle and friend, who was known for his love for gardening, humor and devoted faith. He will be especially remembered for his courage. While he faced several challenges in his health throughout his lifetime, Thankachen was a relentless fighter, showing unwavering strength right up until his very last days.
Thankachen was one of a kind - to many he may have had a “tough exterior” but to those who knew him well, he was a gentle soul full of sincerity, compassion and love, especially for his family. He is survived and will forever be remembered by his wife Alice, his daughter Ashby, son-in-law Binoy, and his siblings Kunjamma George, and T.G Abraham (Achenkunju).
