William Louis Lovas, known by all as “Bill,” went home to the Father on January 18, 2021, in Carrollton, Texas. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Texas with his loving wife, Joan, for many years. He was a also a proud veteran of the Korean War and former President of the local chapter of Korean War Veterans Association. He loved Jesus, his wife and his country and talked meaningfully of his devotion to all three.
To know Bill was to hear stories of his exploits, tales of surviving hurricanes and floods with his family in Florida, and harrowing escapes from death as he served in Korea. He loved talking about Joan, her children, and how they met. He would laugh as he told of shopping in a store after he first moved to Dallas, asking a clerk if she knew of any sweet unmarried Christian women. That evening he was introduced to the clerk’s sister, Joan, who soon became his wife on Christmas Eve, 1969. Bill liked to say that on that night, he became a husband, father, grandfather, and cat owner. He would say Joan came complete with a family, all of whom participated in the ceremony. Larry was the Best Man, Steve gave away the Bride, Beth was the Maid of Honor, and Pat received the guests and was otherwise in charge.
Bill was a fixture in his neighborhood and a part of the lives of each of his neighbors, all of whom came to his aid after Joan’s death. He was the definition of a handyman and could create or fix anything from scratch. He had the best workshop and loved his tools and the works of his hands.
Bill was a good friend. He made friends everywhere he went and was always telling stories of his friend Joe of Joe’s Pizza in Carrollton and the Friday lunches with the service department at the KIA dealership. He was extremely loyal but would also put up a good argument about anything. He never failed to share his thoughts but was usually willing to concede in the end. He loved God and loved trying to understand the Bible and its application to his life. He will be missed here but seen again when we meet in Heaven.
Bill was born to Zolton and Susie Lovas on May 12, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio and learned to speak Hungarian fluently from them as a child. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zolton and Susie Lovas, his loving wife, Joan Yvonne Lovas, his stepsons Larry McRoberts and Steven E. McRoberts and many friends. He is survived by Joan’s daughters Beth Ann McRoberts Armenta and Patricia Kay McRoberts Johnson, their families, and many friends.
In the last part of his life, Bill was loyally attended to and cared for by his stepson, Larry McRoberts and many friends and neighbors. He finally arrived at Sonoma House where the laughter and encouragement made him happy and helped ease him through the last year of his life. We are forever grateful for these friends who have chosen to help people like Bill.
He is undoubtedly at peace with the Father and is reunited with his wife, Joan in praising God for eternity. We thank God for Bill.
A visitation for Bill will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home on February 9, 2021, from 10am-12pm with services at the DFW National Cemetery at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please make any donation to First Baptist Church at the Fields, 1401 Carrollton Pkwy, Carrollton, TX 75010.
