What do you say about a Bigger-Than-Life man like Brian Linstrom? Brian was 6’-4”, had the strength of an ox, and was a real man’s man. Born with compassion for family, friends and those he served, Brian also had an incredible sense of humor and could tell stories and jokes like no other.
He was a humble yet established athlete. Brian attended Omaha’s Creighton Preparatory High School, lettering in basketball, baseball and football, being named as an All-State quarterback, his Junior and Senior years. Brian was recruited by over 20 colleges, but chose and played at the University of Arizona, as “the weather was much better than Lincoln.” Brian later played for the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
While at UofA, he earned a degree in Recreational Administration, and received his Masters in Psychology at the University of Oregon where he counseled mental health patients in the Oregon State Hospital. Brian then moved to Las Vegas and worked for the Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Center, where he met his wife Julie Jacobs, secretary to the Director. He then took a Psychologist position with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
When their son Jacob was born, they left Las Vegas for a more suitable climate and environment in Carson City, transferring to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center. After 38 years working for the State of Nevada, he retired in 2016. Throughout his work experiences, he remained friends with many colleagues. He continued his love of sports by refereeing and/or coaching baseball, basketball, soccer and football. Brian also loved his volunteer work with RSVP.
Brian and his family loved their many road trips, seeing family and friends as well as marking off bucket list items, traveling to all 50 states. He liked hunting pheasant and turkey in Nebraska and deer hunting and camping in Nevada with his son and buddies.
Brian will be loved and sorely missed, but is now with our son Jacob, who passed to Heaven six years ago.
Brian Thomas Linstrom, was born September 28, 1950 to Elmer and Erma Linstrom in Omaha, NE. He was the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jacob, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Julie, siblings Patricia Rudolph(Larry), Barry, Kathy Wright, Maureen Maher(Dan), Terry and mother-in-law Sonia Waters(Doug). He also leaves behind his favorite little pups Ling-Ling and Lucy.
Visitation is Monday, September 21st from 4pm to 7pm at FitzHenry’s Mortuary in Carson City, with Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, also in Carson City, on Tuesday, September 22nd at 11:00am.
