At the young at of 12, her father Bruce moved her and her family to Carson City, Nevada. Here, she attended Carson High School. In her teen years she converted to LDS and attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints here in Carson City. There, she would later marry the love of her life Robert Louis Dykman on July 14th, 1996. Together, her and bob would go on to build an incredible life together filled with many travels and laughs along the road. Her travels took her many places. She enjoyed traveling to spend time with family in places like Colorado, Texas, and Alabama. Colleen loved her family immensely. Her favorite family tradition was watching Monday night football with her son Brian. Together, you could always find them cheering on the 49ers.
Colleen enjoyed many things in life like gardening, crafting, and spending time with her animals. She rescued Shelby, a Border Collie and Shepard Mix, when Shelby was just a little over a year old. Colleen trained Shelby to be a certified comfort dog to help others through trying times. She was blessed to have Shelby in her life for 14 incredible years before Shelby’s passing in 2019. She also had two cats named Snip and Minou. Alongside a terrier mix named Houdini, whom she rescued about a month ago. You could always find Colleen in her beautiful garden, where she grew an assortment of vegetables and incredible roses. She even grew a second cucumber vine so Shelby could have a yummy snack (Shelby loved cucumbers). She was an avid “Chef,” who loved to try new things and create dishes with fresh ingredients from her garden. Colleen was a crafter and loved working with her hands. Some would call her a “Sewologist.” There was nothing she couldn’t create. She loved needle point, quilling, and in her later years quilting gifts for her loved ones.
