If you plan to attend, please let us know so we can gather a general headcount. Your love and support mean so much to us, and we would be honored to have you join us in remembering him.
Gilbert Foster Lopez III was born at home on August 22, 1978, in Long Beach, California—and lived a life full of love, laughter, and a spirit that truly made him unforgettable. Though he lived fully and joyously, Gilbert was taken from us in a tragic and senseless way, leaving a lasting impact on all who loved him. It is with heavy hearts but also with smiles and fond memories that we share the passing of Gilbert, a devoted father, loving son, proud grandfather, and lifelong friend.
Gilbert was the beloved son of Gilbert Lopez Jr. and Cheryl Anne Lopez. His presence was magnetic and full of heart, and his laughter could brighten any room, always reminding us to embrace the lighter side of life.
He was the proud dad to his three amazing daughters—Venecia, Kaylisse, and Julieta—and his one and only son, Romeo. He also welcomed his bonus daughter Aileen into his heart, claiming her as his own. Becoming “G Pa” to his granddaughter brought him a special kind of joy, and nothing made him prouder than seeing the wonderful mother his daughter had become. Gilbert’s pride in his children was endless, and he loved sharing stories about each of them—always eager to celebrate their achievements and milestones.
Gilbert was the fun-loving older brother to his sisters Rachelle and Rachel, and a cherished presence for a big, loving family that included cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. His cousin Ben wasn’t just family—he was a brother in every sense of the word. Family was Gilbert’s world, and he made sure everyone knew they were loved. He was a great brother-in-law.
True to form, Gilbert gave everyone a nickname—no exceptions. Even his coworkers had one! He was the king of surprise calls, always ready to catch up, swap stories, or just share a laugh. If you knew Gil, you knew his signature style: a fresh hat, cool jewelry, and a new pair of shoes ready to hit the streets. He lived with joy, humor, and a passion for life—whether it was talking football with his mom, whom he loved deeply, proudly watching his son play sports, or lighting up a room with a perfectly timed joke.
And don’t forget the grill master! Gilbert’s cooking was legendary, especially behind the grill, where he had a talent for creating unforgettable memories from everyday moments.
Gilbert learned a lot from his dad, especially his trade, and often spoke with gratitude for the lessons and guidance that shaped him. He also held his late Papa close in his heart, cherishing their times together—especially their golf outings, where wisdom and laughter were always on the menu.
Gilbert’s warmth, strength, loyalty, and unmistakable spirit will never be forgotten. While we wish we had more time with him, the love and laughter he gave us will remain forever. He will be deeply missed but forever celebrated in our hearts.
