James "Jim" Longsworth Hardin passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in Gardnerville, NV. Born on January 27, 1957, in Los Angeles, CA, Jim spent his early years in the Bay Area and along the coast, where he developed a lifelong love for surfing and swimming. Jim attended Arroyo Grande High School in San Luis Obispo County, California, and pursued a career as a Geologist in college before joining the armed forces. He joined the Air Force as a b52 gunner in Shreveport, Louisiana before pursuing his career as a truck driver.
In May 2023, Jim married Anne Grace in Maui, HI, and they settled in Carson City, NV, with their two dogs, Coda and Gracie, and cat, Willow.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Mary Jane Hardin, his brother Briant, and his first wife Julie Ann Peave of 37 years. Jim is survived by his loving wife Anne, his son Jeff Hardin, a daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, a stepson Kenton Brust, a stepdaughter-in-law, and a step-grandchild as well as his brother John and sister Judy.
Jim was a man of many connections, knowing just about every truck driver in the Carson Valley and beyond after a 40+ year career driving trucks and he was known for his outgoing, action-oriented nature. His best friend, Corey Permann, and he shared a bond so strong that they spoke on the phone multiple times daily. Jim's sense of humor, kindness, and sincerity earned him the nickname "truck boss" from co-workers and "Big Jim" from family. Jim loved sailing, snowmobiling, ATV driving, and really being anywhere near the ocean. He was always full of energy, multitasking, and although he made a lot of his decisions based on emotion, he always took on conflicts head-on and worked through his relationships without failing. He never felt like a stranger - if you met him, you felt like you knew him. Known for his unique trait of Heterochromia iridium, with one blue eye and one hazel eye, Jim was one of the rare individuals in the nation with this condition, and he wore it with pride. Another fun fact about Jim is that he helped Santa Clause make a memorable appearance for family and friends for quite a number of years during the holidays – he was perhaps one of the most authentic Santas in town, yet he did it out of pure joy – for the smiles, and I’m pretty sure he just loved the attention (and having pretty ladies sit on his lap). He truly bringing joy and laughter to family and friends.
Jim passed peacefully in his truck, doing what he loved. He will be cremated, and the family is planning a celebration of life. Jim's legacy of warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
