Richard was an avid reader and a talented writer. He played golf once a week and loyally tended his garden. He loved his family very much. He was a very thoughtful, loving and caring person.
Richard’s kind and gentle ‘Hippy Spirit’ will be missed by all who knew him. In 1968, Richard joined the army and spent 1968-1969 in Vietnam.
In 1980, Richard attended University of Nevada, Reno and earned his bachelor’s degree in Geology. His entire career was spent as an Exploration Geologist in search of gold. He loved it. Five summers were spent in remote camps with only helicopter access doing mineral reconnaissance exploration.
Richard started work for Barrick Gold Exploration in 1993 and in 1998 was assigned Barrick Project Geologist for the DEE project. And was responsible for the Arturo Gold Discovery in 2005.
Maybe 1 in a 1000 gold exploration geologist drill the initial discovery of ore body, remove it, perform the feasibility study and see it being mined.
