Ronald Eugene Shuga, 64, of Winnemucca, Nevada, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. Born on November 24, 1960, in Rockford, Illinois, to Robert and Judith Shuga, he was a devoted son, husband, and father. A respected athlete and machinist, Ron was known for his sharp wit and generous spirit.
As a young adult, Ronald, aka “Ronnie” could be found on the lanes throwing bowling balls for the D&S Bowling Team or running bases at Forest Hills Ballpark. Ronnie played Rockford Mercantile Agency (RMA) softball, where onlookers old and young enjoyed his famous somersault pitches and numerous home runs. Ronald and his young family traveled routinely for his softball tournaments and family vacations up north to the lake or south to the beach.
A master camper and avid boater, Ronald could build a campfire in the rain or repair a broken prop on a busy channel with a pocketknife and a piece of Saran Wrap. Whenever he was able, Ronald could be found sitting by a fire, telling stories in that low and slow cadence, and laying down the best dad jokes in town. If one was lucky enough, he would guide them to the best fishing hole or skiing bay on the lake.
Ronald was a dedicated father, consistently showing his children that anything is possible. He could slalom behind the worst of drivers, repair any damage done “before mom saw,” or make you laugh until you cried in a tickle fest that he always won. Ronald stood tall and towered over many but was the gentlest and most loving person when you got to know him.
A natural born leader, Ronald supported many new machinists to learn and refine their CNC programming and manufacturing abilities. He had a natural knack for solving problems and viewed machining like a giant puzzle to be solved. A talented machinist, a knowledgeable mentor, and a driven supervisor; these are the ways in which his colleagues will remember his impact upon the shops where he worked and the projects he completed.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jaci; former wife, Mary and children, Amanda Shuga, Randall (Holly) Shuga, and Richard (Britney) Shuga; step-children, William Lenzen, James Lenzen, Devin Zemenski, and Dori (Adam) Pavlu; several grandchildren; brothers Robert (Bobby) Shuga Jr, Jeff (Theresa) Shuga, Joseph Shuga; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Roger Shuga.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Shattered in Loves Park on October 19, 2025, from 1-4pm. Attendees are asked to wear gear representing their favorite sports teams, as Ron wouldn’t have it any other way on a football Sunday. Go Bears!
From his wife Jaci,
Ron lived out west since 2005 and in those 20 years has touched many lives in this region of the US along with all his previous years in Illinois. Please join Jaci in celebrating Ron's life and the lives he touched on this side of the Rockies at their home at 6175 Tausha Drive, Winnemucca, NV 89445 from 11am-3pm and have some lunch while sharing memories of Ron.
