Mr. Bennie Joe Mercer, 86, of Cartersville, GA passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Bennie was born in Cartersville on March 5, 1933 to the late Mr. G.L. Mercer and Mrs. Allie Kelly Mercer.
Bennie was a devout Christian who loved his church family at Zion Hill Baptist Church. He loved to travel and camp all over the country with his wife of 67 years, Grace Martin Mercer. Bennie was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Bennie worked for fifty years in the automotive parts industry and retired from Quality Parts. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bennie is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers; George, Hubert, Marvin, Willard and A.L. Mercer.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, son, Michael (Yvonne) Mercer, daughter, Karen (Mike) Teems, grandchildren; Carisa (Chuck) Mercado, Chris (Cassie) Mercer, Courtney (Kyle) Sumner and step grandson, Michael Austin Teems, great grandchildren; Carson and Carmen Mercado, Ansley and Levi Mercer and Easton and Paisleigh Sumner, sister, Florence (Lamar) Starnes, brother, Linn (Martha) Mercer, and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Sarah Mercer, Betty (Billy) Lyerla, Ruth Payne, Elaine (Billy) Godfrey, Annette Martin and Imogene (Raymond) Clark, and brother-in-law, Harry (Debbie) Martin. Many nieces and nephews also survive to cherish Bennie's memory.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Zion Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at two o'clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Dr. Scott Shepard and Rev. Jonathan Padgett officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens, Cartersville. Serving as pallbearers will be: Chris Mercer, Chuck Mercado, Griffin Padgett, Terry Cantrell, Kyle Sumner and Keith Mercer. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Jeff and Steve Southern, Buddy Black, Donald Peace and Lamar Starnes.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from five o'clock in the evening until eight.
