Bertha B Fontaine

Mrs. Fontaine was born February 1, 1926 in Hebron, Connecticut daughter of the late Frederick John Brehant and Ethel May Rogers Brehant. Bertha graduated from State Teachers College in Willimantic, CT in 1948. Her senior year she taught grades 1,2 and 3 in Ellington, CT due to teacher shortage. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Bertha married elementary school principal Arthur Raymond Fontaine. In 1953, son Thomas Arthur Fontaine was born. While growing up, the family traveled through the United States, Canada, Mexico and Jamaica. Bertha taught grades K-4 in Connecticut and New jersey. She also taught arts & crafts, grades K-6 in government program. July 2, 1967 Bertha received Christ as her Savior through Pastor Jack M. Schneider of St. Louis, MO. She attended Baptist Fellowship Church, Taught Sunday school, and counseled there. She, Art & Tom served in that church for nineteen years before moving to Cartersville, GA in February, 1986. Bertha attended, taught Sunday school, VBS, and sang in the choir in Unity Baptist Church in Cartersville. Her husband Art passed away September 8, 1990. Bertha attended Tabernacle Baptist Church serving as a counselor. Recently, she became a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She studied the Bible continually in classes in Connecticut and with Rev. Don Hazel in Georgia. At age 88, she was conferred a Master’s degree in Biblical counseling from Antioch Bible Seminary. Her other God given gifts were quilting, oil painting, writing spiritual poems, knitting mittens, witnessing and giving to others.

Bertha leaves her son Thomas; brother, Fred Brehant; sister-in-law, Carolyn Brehant; sisters, Dorothy Brehant Taggart, Winifred Brehant Chase; brother-in-law, Donald Chase; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 31st at 2:00 P.M. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.
