Betty was born February 16, 1949, to the late Clarence Willard Wood and Gladys Lucille Mulkey Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude James Tanner, Jr.; her son, Joseph Tanner; her brothers, William Wood, C.W. Wood, and Harold Wood; and her sisters, Joyce Bagley, Barbara Davenport, and Lisa Flowers.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Tammy White (Buck), Sheryl Muniz (Pedro), Claudia Darling (David), and Melinda Lee (Richard). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, James Tanner, Maria Juarez, Ramon Muniz, Christopher Muniz, Bianca Muniz, Michael Tanner, Uriah Lee, Jessie White, and Casey Warren; several great-grandchildren; her brothers, Ricky Wood, Leroy Wood, and Charlie Wood; and her sisters, Mary Cox and Martha Simpson. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Betty devoted her life to being a homemaker and lovingly raising her four children. Affectionately known as "Granny" to everyone who knew her, she never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Her caring heart led her to always look after others, and she genuinely worried about the people she loved.
She enjoyed wearing colorful clothes, putting together jigsaw puzzles, working puzzle books, watching game shows and the news, listening to gospel music, and taking trips to the mountains.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren beyond measure and treasured every moment spent with them.
Betty's joyful spirit was contagious. She loved to dance and sing, and one of her favorite traditions was calling family and friends to sing "Happy Birthday" at the top of her lungs. It didn't matter where she was or who was listening—she simply wanted those she loved to feel special. That was the kind of love she shared so freely.
Betty was a faithful member of Crowe Springs Baptist Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life.
Betty's legacy is one of unconditional love, kindness, laughter, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
