Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Mathew Guice Myrick and Daphnia Darnell Myrick, and his infant daughter, Cynthia Lynn Myrick.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Judy Ann Myrick, daughter, Rhonda (Brenton) Garmon, son, Billy Wayne (Kaye) Myrick, Jr., and son, Christopher Matthew Myrick; grandchildren, Ben (Lexi) Clark, Nick Clark, Savanna Clark, Fancy Myrick Kiker, Camron (Kristen) Myrick and Ashton Myrick and numerous great-grandchildren, all of which he was immensely proud. Wayne was a Master Mason and Shriner.
Professionally, Wayne enjoyed a long and successful career at Lockheed-Martin Corporation where he was an expediter and active union member, ultimately being elected and serving as President of Local Lodge 709 Machinist Union until his retirement. Wayne spent many years and was well known locally for coaching children in youth baseball, continuing to coach long after his own children were grown. He’d been known to recruit children playing ball in the streets that otherwise likely never would’ve had the opportunity to play. Wayne went on to umpire youth baseball for many years as well and likely could be heard from far away with his resounding “STIIIIIIRRRRIIIIKE THREEEEEE!” Raising and training bird dogs was another great passion Wayne enjoyed along with guiding quail and pheasant hunts at Barnsley Gardens Resort until he was 80 years old. Passionate and principled, Wayne was never one to back down from an active debate whether on the ball field or at the Union Hall. On the baseball field, he carried the Little League rule book in his back pocket and was never shy of using it to back his position. While representing the members of the Machinist Union, he carried a copy of the labor contract in his suit jacket. He was tenacious and fierce in defending the rights of workers, always protecting the underdog and constantly demonstrating his dedication, knowledge and passion for their rights. Always patient, kind, generous and protective of those he loved, Pawpaw Wayne’s absence will leave a void in our lives that can only be consoled by the infinite wonderful memories of time spent with him.
A gathering of family and friends for Billy will be held Monday, February 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Dr, Cartersville, Georgia 30120, followed by a celebration of life at 7:00 PM.
