Bonnie Waits

Mrs. Waits was born on November 30, 1932 in Bartow County. She was the daughter of the late Elihue Richard and Nevada Howell Abernathy. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Brandon’s Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Waits enjoyed camping and trout fishing at Coopers Creek with her family. She also liked to have yard sales and going to them, however, her favorite thing on this Earth was being called Nanny by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, John W. (Shaver) Waits; her son, Ikey Waits; one sister, Connie Sanford and four brothers, Odie Abernathy, Melvin Abernathy, Dewitt Abernathy and Oliver “Buck” Abernathy.

She is survived by her daughters and son’s-in-law, Yvonne Mercer (Michael) of Cartersville and Patricia Owens (L.C.) of Cartersville; grandchildren, Carisa Mercado (Chuck), Chris Mercer (Cassie) and Johnathan Owens (Vanessa); six great-grandchildren, Carson Mercado, Carmen Mercado, Ansley Mercer, Levi Mercer, Hunter Owens and Carter Owens.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 2-4pm and on Monday from 1-2pm at Owen Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 2pm from the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. Scott Sheppard and Rev. David Young officiating. Serving as pallbearers: Chris Mercer, Jonathan Owens, Dillard Cook, Chuck Mercado, Tony Sanford and Richard Crowder. Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Owens, Carter Owens, Levi Mercer and Andrew Price.
