Mr. Worthington was born on March 13, 1936 in Rome, GA, son of the late Johnny Worthington and Lula Maybell Worthington.
Mr. Worthington proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud member of First Christian Church of Adairsville. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, Westerns and watching cartoons with his grandchildren. His true pride and joy was spending quality time with his family.
Mr. Worthington is preceded in death by his son, Dennis Anthony Worthington; sisters, Christine Waters and Ella Amerson; son-in-law, Rex Payne.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-nine years, Mary Welchel Worthington; sister, Alice Bell; children, Janice Payne, Stacy (Eleisha) Worthington, Darrin (Tonya) Martin, Lacrecia Martin and Machelle (Patrick) Gray; grandchildren, D.J., Vann, Timothy, Justin, Stephen, Luke, Corey, Amanda, Hanna, Carrie, Amber, Keisha, Victoria, Baileigh and Brandy; twenty-one great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at twelve-thirty in the afternoon on Thursday, the 17th of October, 2019 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Minister Ron Marks officiating. Interment will follow at two-thirty in the GA National Cemetery with military honors rendered.
Serving as pallbearers are Stephen Williams, Justin Martin, DJ Brookshire, Tyler Button, Colby Myers and Brandon Dendy.
Honorary pallbearers are Vann Payne and Timothy Payne.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family for two hours prior to service time at Owen Funeral Home.
