

Mr. Cecil M. Chitwood, 93, of Cartersville, GA passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020. Cecil was born in the Rowland Springs Community (Simpsonville) on April 19, 1927 to the late Mr. Gilbert F. Chitwood and Mrs. Frankie Simpson Chitwood.
Cecil served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Rowland Springs Baptist Church and was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Lewis Chitwood, for over 64 years. Cecil worked in the construction of Allatoona Dam and later retired from Cartersville Undergarment after 34 years of service. His family was everything to Cecil. He loved to visit flea markets, working in his yard, Southern gospel music and the Atlanta Braves.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Elenora Chitwood Payne and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Lucille Lewis.
Cecil is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Edde) Yancey, grandson, Michael Yancey, and brother- in- law, Gene (Wilma) Lewis. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive to cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Cecil’s life will be conducted on Friday, August 14, 2020 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home at two o’clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Joe Ringwalt officiating. Interment will follow the service in the cemetery of Rowland Springs Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be:
David Butler, Jerry Welchel, David Wiley, Dean Lewis, Bryan Cobb and Tony Sanford. Casual dress is recommended.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home on Friday, August 14, 2020 from twelve o’clock noon until the service hour.
