Dean worked in the textile industry until 1975 when an illness affected his ability to continue working. He had severe limitations on his mobility from partial paralysis in his lower body. Even with his health challenges, he always found a way to serve others.
Dean was an active member of White United Methodist Church and surrendered his heart to Jesus in 1956. He honored God, was faithful to his church and walked with integrity as a man answerable to God. Dean loved spending time with his family, adored his grandchildren and recently became a great grandfather. He lived for many years in White and then moved to Cartersville.
Dean moved into Waldrop Care Home in 2015. Our family would like to express our appreciation to his primary caregiver Chelsie Downing and all the other caregivers that demonstrated so much love for “Paw-Paw”. They are a part of our family and words cannot express our gratitude and love for each of them.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa McMillan Strain (Greg), his granddaughters Kristen Mize (David), Kayla Strain and a great granddaughter, Kinsley Mize. He is also survived by his Sister Peggy Nix, his mother in law Ella Mae Surratt, his brother in law James Surratt and several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, J.E. McMillan, and his mother, Dorothy McMillan, both of White, Georgia. Also preceding him in death was his older brother, Guy Kenneth McMillan of White, Georgia.
