Dewayne was born on April 19, 1952 in Cartersville, GA, son of the late Cecil Mathison and Martha Ann Lowery Mathison McEver.
Dewayne proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is an avid sports fan and never missed a Georgia Bulldogs football game. In his spare time, he enjoyed working out in his yard tending to the flower gardens. The light of his life is spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Cole, Katie-Dru and Caroline Spinner. Dewayne retired from Ampacet as a shipping manager after twenty-two years of dedicated employment.
Dewayne is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years as of May 3, 2021, Jan McDonald Mathison; Brooke (Mark) Spinner; son, Kevin (Brittani) Mathison; grandchildren, Cole, Katie-Dru and Caroline Spinner; brothers, Ralph (Nancy) Mathison, Jerry (Margaret) Mathison; sisters, Wanda (Randy) Allen and Lynn (Todd) King; a host of nieces and nephews; two special fur babies, Sweet Pea and Tippy Toes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted in the chapel at twelve-thirty in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 19th of May, 2021 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery with military honors rendered.
Serving as pallbearers are Mark Spinner, Cole Spinner, T.M. Morris, Randy Allen, Gene Howard and Ronnie Mulkey.
