

The Reverend Donald Albert Cario, age 91, passed away on April 4, 2022. Son of the late Albert Henry Cario and Mabel Louise Cario née Winter, Donald was born on August 15, 1930, in Rochester, New York.
Don graduated from Cornell University in May of 1952 and married his high school sweetheart, Marie Bauch, on September 13, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hilton, New York. Soon after, he served in the Korean War as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Upon his return from Korea, he worked for Ortho Chemical Company before entering Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Illinois. After graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri in 1968, he was honored to start a new mission at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Burton, Michigan. He later served the university town congregations of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ithaca, New York and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in State College, Pennsylvania. After retiring to Spencerport, New York, Don and Marie spent time in South Africa, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan doing mission work through the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The many people he served in ministry remained near to his heart. Don and Marie later moved to Cartersville, Georgia. They spent 64 loving years together until Marie's passing in January of 2017.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Cario née Bauch; son, John David Cario; granddaughter, Rachel Cario; and sister, Mary Jean Thoresen Lindsay née Cario.
He is survived by his son, Dr. William (Cheryl) Cario of Mequon, Wisconsin; daughters, Martha (James) Sherod of Torrance, California; and Beth (John) Stein of Cartersville, Georgia; sister, Gloria (Arthur) Stennett of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Kristine (Michael) Dean of Rogers, Arkansas; Michael (Karlie) Cario of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Kathryn (Jacob) Worlow of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Rebecca Cario of Austin, Texas; Anna (Chester) Reinemann of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Sarah (Brandon) Gierach of Plymouth, Minnesota; David Cario of Mequon, Wisconsin; Stephen Cario (fiancé, Grace Koster) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Julia, Jillian and Bethany Stein of Cartersville, Georgia; great grandchildren, Conner Dean, Riley Dean, Amelia Reinemann, and Elizabeth Cario; and many extended family members and friends who cherish his memory.
The family is grateful for the care provided by the staff of Fite Living Center in Cartersville, Georgia where Don spent his last two years.

A funeral service to honor Reverend Donald Cario will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Savior of all Lutheran Church in Cartersville, Georgia. Friends are also welcome for visitation one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest Friday, April 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
