Dorothy Louise Dew, 90, of Cartersville, Georgia transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, October 25, 2021. She was born on June 25, 1931 in Colerain, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her “Sweetheart” and husband of 41 years, Reverend Hubert Clemons Dew; her parents Reverend David Brinkley and Doris Pierce Lawrence; sister, Rose Willits; and brother, Reverend Glen Lawrence.
Known affectionately to some as Dot, but to most as Mamaw, her life has always been centered on serving Christ by serving others. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at five years-old. Mamaw grew up as a minister’s daughter along the coasts of North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. After graduating from Southeastern University, she partnered in ministry with her husband, pastoring in churches in the same areas as her childhood. They also served as missionaries to Africa for four years. Upon returning from the mission field, Mamaw earned a Master’s Degree in teaching from Rollins College. She taught elementary school in Florida for 23 years before retiring and moving to Cartersville, Georgia to be with her family.
While in Cartersville, Mamaw was a faithful member of the Church at Liberty Square, serving in various ministries at the church. She also worked at Rose Lawn for 5 years, giving tours of the home and sharing the gospel through the story of evangelist, Sam Jones. Mamaw was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved and served the Lord with all her heart. Her family is forever grateful for the legacy of faith she leaves behind.
Mamaw is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Linny and Carlotta Dew; granddaughters, Melissa and Stephen McKinnon, Aimee and Blake Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Devin Hull, Mallory McKinnon, Emma Brooke, Anna Grace, and William Anderson; great-great-grandson, Braxton Hull; sisters Faith Robertson and Ethel Headman; brother, Gaston Lawrence; and sister-in-law, Margret Lovick.
