Because of the constant care and attention he received from his nursing home staff at Pruitt Health Care in Rome, Georgia and assisted living staff at Tranquility in Cartersville, Georgia he lived until well beyond his 92nd birthday.
Prior to the last 5 years at those facilities, he lived in the home he built with his own hands and lived in with the love of his life Constance (Connie) Bailey Ingram for well over 60 years.
He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, neighbor, and friend. Earnest was the son of the late Robert Mathew Ingram and Ollie Mae Grizzle and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years and daughter Brenda Joy Ingram Thacker. Earnest is survived by his son Earnest J.(Joe) Ingram, daughter-in-law Emily Ingram, daughter Diane Barnette, son-in-law Larry Barnette, four grandsons Brian and Steve Barnette, Terry Thacker, and Earnest J Ingram, Jr., twelve great grandchildren, sisters, sister-in-laws, brother, brother-in-laws, and a host of nieces, and nephews. Earnest and Connie met in the old Goodyear Mill in ATCO during WWII and soon fell in love and married. He served briefly in the Army, as a Private, when he came of age in the final months of WWII. He was a builder of homes, custom cabinets, churches, and church steeples. In addition, he had a special gift of being able to repair or rebuild anything mechanical. Prior to starting his custom cabinet shop in the early 1970s he worked in the textile and carpet industries as a hydraulic maintenance mechanic. He was a Bass Master and participated in and won fishing tournaments in both Georgia and Alabama. After retiring 30 years ago he loved spending time with family and sharing his and Connie’s lake retreat on Lake Weiss in Cedar Bluff, AL. He was a lifelong Christian and as a young deacon at Oak Grove Baptist sometime taught Adult Sunday School Classes. For a number of years the last words he would say was “what’s your hurry?” We’re glad he didn’t hurry to be with Jesus and we’re glad to know he is with him now. But he will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
