Ann grew up in Greenbrier, Tennessee, where she excelled in basketball and tennis. Her athletic accomplishments earned her a place in the first Sports Hall of Fame at Greenbrier High School. She later attended Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee, where she met fellow student Ancil Walker.
Ancil had returned from serving in the United States Army during World War II, and the two eventually married, beginning a lifetime together. They made their homes in Bethel Springs, Coopertown, Trenton, and Selmer, Tennessee, as well as in Adairsville and Cartersville, Georgia. While Ancil was an educator, Ann was a homemaker, as well as a teacher for a few years and a secretary for TSSAA and for high schools in Trenton and Adairsville.
Ann's love of sports continued throughout her life, and she remained a talented athlete well into her golden years, enjoying hitting a tennis ball or shooting hoops with those much younger than herself. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and dearly loved her church family. She also maintained a special connection to her home church in Greenbrier, Tennessee.
Known for her gentle temperament and kind spirit, Ann treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Her love for her family and the memories they shared will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
