Along with his parents, Elmer is preceded in death by his brother, James Smith and brother-in-law, Eddie Parks. Elmer is survived by his sisters, Carol Parks and Mary Gearldine (Roy) Morris, several nieces and nephews, and extended family. First off my condolences
to the family, Elmer was a joy, to take care of during his time at Hickory log. I will miss him calling me " old woman". He will surely be missed, but I know he is rejoicing and not in any pain.

Carol and Family, I am so heartbroken to lose Elmer here on earth, but I have to rejoice because I know that he is with your Mother and Dad, whom he missed so much, and with his Lord Jesus Christ, whom he was so eager to see. He made my chaplain work a true joy. He worked so hard at learning to read, and would tell everyone how he'd prayed for a teacher and then introduce me. He tried harder than any other student I had ever had in my years of teaching school. Elmer had a great sense of humor and such a love for other people, especially needy people. He was a fine Christian man. We are already missing him so much at Hickory Log. We love you all and will be keeping you lifted up in prayer.
